Jack first got an interest in reading in 5th grade. Jacks mother studied English in college so he has been surrounded by books his entire life; although he often saw reading as chore and boring. In 5th grade Jack picked up a book called Found by Margaret Haddix. Found was the first book in a series called The Missing Series. Jack instantly fell in love with the story and decided to read more. Jack's interested in books have changed over the years and has expanded from Science Fiction, to Adventure, to History and Political; but one thing has remained his enjoyment of reading. Sometimes reading can be very hard for Jack because he can struggle to get interested in a book at the beginning. This leads Jack to often be critical of the things he reads and a general worry of wasting his time; but when he does find a book he enjoys he always tries to finish it no matter how long it takes him. Sometimes when Jack reads he gets so emerged into the story he really gets involved in the story. He is so focused he feels like he goes into the story and and forgets where he is in the outside world. Jack can really put himself into the story and join the characters in the story. Jack is currently not reading a book but is about to start one entitled Rules for Radicals Defeated by Jeff Hedgpeth; the book is a look at how to combat modern political arguing strategies. He read 2 books this summer Going After Cacciato which he enjoyed and How to Read Literature Like a Professor which he didn't enjoy quite as much. He read about six books last year most of which were politically oriented which is Jacks favorite kind of book to read. Jacks favorite authors span from Gary Paulson to Thomas Jefferson, Jack is a firm believer that no matter how short a piece of literature is you can get just as much as a 300 page novel. Jacks house holds many books with a family who is very appreciative of the arts; his family owns about 300 books in total. Jack is a reader who's interest spans across almost every genre. He is a lover of history and politics and thinks if we can't learn from our past we will repeat it in the future and that's why he finds understanding past literature so important. Jack has grown as a reader as really coming to appreciate older literature, and has really enjoyed reading more.
